Clematis patens (Japanese Form)

A deeper blue form than the Chinese variant with red anthers. Introduced from Japan by Siebold c.1836. The name 'patens' refers to the fact that the plane of the tepals is at right-angles to the stem. Double flowers may occur in cultivation as they sometimes do in the wild. (See patens (double Japanese form)).
