Tepals: 4; 2-4cm long, 1-2cm wide, narrowly elliptic with acute tips. Staminodes usually numerous; either short, creamy yellow, broadly paddle-shaped and petaloid, 1-2 cm long, or blue, tinged purple, narrowly sepaloid, more or less equalling sepals in length, giving the flower a spiky appearance
